I had to get out of the house rather abruptly last week, and ended up staying with my two best friends, Reby and her husband, Robert, for a week. While I stayed with them, I got a sudden flood of inspiration for working on Ashes. In less than a week, I did the fully shaded pencils for four pages, which for me anymore is a lot. I am back home now and once more have scanner access, so I will be scanning those pages and running them through photoshop for cleanup and lettering very soon. I will resume updates once a week, but my ultimate goal is to build a big enough buffer to bump updates to twice weekly. Sadly, Eryl IS going on a long hiatus. It has become too demanding for my stress levels at the moment. I’m finding Ashes more fun and relaxing right now.
OH YES, and I replaced all the chapter covers with greyscale versions. Not only do I like the grey better, but it will make it look better when this is eventually printed. And there’s better consistency now. It always bugged me that the whole comic is in black and white and then covers were coloured. To me it felt jarring. The cover and prologue will remain in colour. I will put the old versions of the covers in the gallery (eventually) so you guys can still view them in their full RGB glory.
All right, for anyone who actually checks this page still, I know updates have been more than sluggish and dropped to nonexistent. Mostly this was because I was working on this story as a novel, leaving little energy for it as a comic. I read through the 6 1/2 chapters I’d written last night… and was not impressed with myself. I think it has a lot of raw potential, but it was definitely not professional grade. I think I’m going to put away writing for a while until I have the health to take some college writing courses. For now, I’m going to concentrate on the comic versions of my stories. I’m much better at comic scripting at this point, so I’m going to try to update both Eryl and Ashes soon, or at the end of Chapter IV of Eryl, I will take a break and do a couple chapters of this. I still owe Daemonschile’s full cameo, which will appear with the next page!
I’m currently upgrading the site in preparation for the return of regular updates. It’s been out of date for ages!
Edit- Okay, the appearance end of the renovation is complete. Now I just need to work on filling in more content on the subpages. Such as getting the wallpapers up in the Gallery and putting together sections on the ombri and daemons for the World page.
This comic will update again on December 11th, then we will see regular Tuesday updates for a while. I’m taking a break from Eryl at that time so we can expand Ashes’ archive some more. :3 I’m super eager to draw the next chapters, so if it is possible, I might be able to bump updates to twice weekly at some point! We’ll see, though, my life has the nasty habit of being unpredictable, and not in a nice way. XC
Hey all! If you’re not a frequenter of the mainpage you are probably in the dark as far as updates. I switched updates here to ‘sporadic’ due to a large workload a few weeks ago and the next page is being delayed a while. Sorry! I blame pokémon this time. It’s been eating up all my free time. I’m going to TRY to get a new page up NEXT week (between 9/9 and 9/15) but I can’t promise anything right now. Shivae has started again so I have to do that on top of Eryl. I’m thinking though that when Eryl Chapter 3 is finished (I have 5 pages left of it to draw) I’ll be focusing on Ashes for a while so updates will become more frequent and regular! I’m really eager to draw the upcoming scenes in this comic, so I don’t want to delay updates more than necessary. I’m just as excited for new pages as you guys!
