Some of you may remember a year ago when I took commissions to fund some repairs that my computer needed. Well, what with my health being so unstable, it never got done and I’ve been limping along with a slow and finicky system this whole time. Last night my mac finally had enough and stopped working. It keeps putting itself to sleep every few minutes or seconds and often won’t wake up until I pop the battery out and force it to reboot. We’re taking it to apple to look at it, but it’s really looking like I need a new computer. Even if we fix the old one it’s so outdated it can’t run a lot of the new software. So I’ll likely not be online much until I have a working system (I’m doing this update from my DSi which is rather awkward and very slow). Apologies for all comments and e-mails that may go unanswered for some time.

Back to Work! (Sort Of)

Well you may have noticed that there’s a couple new DSi paintings in the ‘latest artwork’ section, and now I’m getting back to sculpture too. I can only do little ones right now and I haven’t the energy to paint them yet, but it’s a start! My latest health challenge is ear infections because of my impacted wisdom teeth. I currently hunting down a competent oral surgeon.

Delays, Delays, Delays

Hey all (if any of you are left), it seems that the hiatus for the comics is going to last a while longer. It’s been nearly 4 months since surgery and I’m still incapacitated. I had hoped to get the comics updating months ago and I am extremely frustrated. The problem? A new medication that I’m taking that was supposed to help with something that was triggering the spinal headaches. Well, the cure is worse than the ailment. I have been EXTREMELY dizzy for 3 months now. And it’s not a medication I can just stop. In fact, it won’t wear off ’til late September. I found that anti-biotics for some weird reason help the dizziness, but my doctor is understandably reluctant to put me on them for so long in case I build a tolerance to them, making them ineffective against any infections I might get. Sooooo, as you can imagine I am feeling very frustrated and angry. I want more than anything to work on the comics and my sculpture, but it’s just not happening. Rest assured they WILL eventually return; I want them to update more than anyone.

Last week we found a nest of 5 or 6 leverets in our backyard. They have all since grown into healthy wild hares. I got to hold this little guy shortly after his eyes had opened. I named him Martin. :3

Hey, all. I am back from yet another trip to LA to see my spine doctor. I had a third surgery and am doing well. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I am hoping it sticks this time and that I don’t get sick again. I’ve been relaxing by playing lots of video games. I plan on getting back into sculpture soon and hopefully comics will follow not too long after. Epic Fail will likey be the fist comic to resume as I have tonnes of ideas I’m itching to draw.

(BTW, I’m doing this update from my new DSi. )

Still Alive

Hey all, been a while. I’m still here and Ashes is updating again on its website (even though the ‘latest’ thumbnail is not changing), albeit sporadically. Once Chapter 1 is all up I’m taking a break before chapter 2. My health took another nasty dive and I can’t get to LA to see my surgeon until early Feb at least. So it might be March or later until Chapter 2 starts.

NaNoWriMo

Another November creeps up upon me and it is time once more for National Novel Writing Month. And again, I’m obliged to sit out. However, I do not intend to be idle this November. I would like to do at least a little writing, and I think that I will set the modest goal of rewriting the prologue and first chapter of the novel version of Ashes. I’m horrendously guilty of something known as ‘purple prose.’ Which means there’s a ridiculous amount of irrelevant verbiage. So I’m trimming away all the flowery debris and attempting a much simpler, faster-paced, and readable style. Soff gave me a very good critique of the two chapters and helped me spot the major problems. If I am pleased enough with the rewrites I may start posting the prose along with the comic. But knowing what an insufferable perfectionist I am, it’s unlikely. :/

Also, I cleaned up my links page, removing all the link exchanges whose websites have disappeared or who have removed their links to me.

Computer Problems

EDIT 7-2-10: We managed to get my mac to turn back on. We changed a few settings and it seems to be okay now. It’s been over two days since it put itself to sleep. I’m hoping that the problem is fixed. I’m giving it a little more time and if it continues to behave, we’re investing in a new battery and upgrading the memory. This computer has to last me a few more years, so hopefully upgrades will make it run well a while longer. I’m waiting until mac comes out with a touch-screen laptop for digital artists such as myself (no WAY I’m paying 1-2K for a cintiq! That’s how much my whole mac cost DX).

I am currently experiencing some technical difficulties. My mac powerbook kept putting itself to sleep every few minutes/ seconds after it got hot- usually after 10-40 minutes of use. I thought it was just because the battery was going and not holding a charge. But I took the battery out and ran it on AC power and it still kept doing it. Now it’s asleep and won’t wake up again. I’m calling apple tomorrow and will likely have to take it in for repairs. I just really really hope it’s not dying. I can’t afford a new computer. Until it’s fixed (if it can be fixed, fingers crossed) there won’t be any comics or art. Getting online will be more difficult, so I may be scatty about blogs and answering any messages.

I’ve been trying to get things together to eventually open up an Etsy shop. I riffled through many old nature photographs taken between 4-7 years ago to make prints of for sale. These are some of my favourites that I ran across, and ones that I thought were particularly poetic. ‘At My fingertips’ had its colours tweaked in Photoshop, but the other two remain unaltered. 2/3 of these will be available for sale once I open up shop. But if there are enough requests to see ‘At My Fingertips’ as a print, I’ll include it too.

EDIT- I totally forgot, tomorrow’s my birthday! Lv23!

Prayer and Medication

‘Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 pm – prayer and medication to follow.’ -Church bulletin blooper.

Thank God for Chruch ladies with typewriters, eh? But all jokes aside, what I’m about to say is not very funny. My headaches are back again, as always, so I will be flying out to LA again to see my specialist. They will be doing a very invasive procedure and then running some tests. They will then make another stab (ha ha) at healing my spine depending on what they find. It could lead to spinal surgery, which I’m just a might apprehensive about. I could really use some prayer and medication right now. I will be gone for at least 2 weeks, possibly more, especially if there’s surgery. I also ask that you keep my Aunt Beth in your prayers, too. She was recently diagnosed with stage III uterine cancer and is currently undergoing radiation.
